Basho Restaurant

Overview:
Basho is a Japanese brasserie that is located in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood. Two large folding wall systems open the space to outdoors, allowing restaurant patrons to make the most of the location.
Need:
With a street-level location and two large folding wall units, the architect and restaurant owners looked for a screen solution that would provide natural ventilation, while meeting the health code that requires the restaurant to have a barrier separating the interior from the exterior.
Solution:
The architect Harry Lowd from Office dA selected motorized Executive Screens by Phantom in recessed housings. According to the architect, “one of the main reasons for specifying the retractable Executive Screens was the option of choosing screens that cover 22-foot openings.” Fiberglass 18/14 insect mesh by Phifer provides insect protection, natural ventilation, and solar protection, retracting into its protective housings when the restaurant is closed to public.
